Day 37 – from Cividale to Breg

After having made breakfast ourselves we packed our stuff to leave. Since today’s stage is very short we took our time but finally had to say goodbye to Cividale. Gonna miss the icecream. 😉 And Stefano’s gorgeous apartment!

The path today was mainly on asphalt road and not really exciting. We left Cividale and headed through some small villages, passing a lot of vineyards. There were no real ups and downs and quite too often cars passed along. On the way there wasn’t really anything to do or see, we just passed many vineyards, trees with figs, apples, pears, plums… We tried the assortment, the figs really are perfectly ripe right now. 😉 Except from this it was the most uneventful hike since our start.

Some impressions on the way:

At the only possible inn we wanted to stop for a break – not because we were too tired but simply because it wasn’t noon yet and we had nearly reached our destination. Bad luck, the inn was closed due to the fact that there’s a holiday tomorrow.

So we continued the last kilometre up some stairs and then up a small hill with many vineyards until we reached TurizemBreg, a farm where we had our accomodation today.

The main house and the view from there:

We were offered something to drink and then the son of the owner led us to our room which was in a small house 500m above the main house. Very idyllic with incredibly many vineyards, olive trees, fig trees and a whole lot of other fruits and vegetables.

But there were also like thousands mosquitos!!! You couldn’t even stay outside for more than a few minutes or you were eaten alive. 😱😱😱

Since there was nothing else to do I wanted to take a shower but the water didn’t get warm. Finally we had to admit that there was something broken. So Felix went back to fetched the owner. When they checked it they declared the boiler to be damaged. No warm water. They let me into the other room in the house for a quick shower.

With not being able to go outside because of the mosquitos we decided to have a little nap. And around 5 p.m. suddenly the son came around with a technician. And then, for the next hour and a half, they exchanged the boiler which included drilling new holes! Not our idea of a quiet spot in-between vineyards and olive trees. 😒

For the rest of the evening we ate quite some of our provisions and then Felix went to the main house to get the breakfast because we wanted to start early tomorrow. It’s going to be a very long day and the weather will be even hotter than today!

Some figures for today (our all time low 😉):

  • 14,9km
  • 337m up
  • 215m down
  • Hiking time: 2h 43m
