Since the start of our trail is in the middle of nowhere we decided to drive to Villach acting as a base camp because we still don’t know whether the traverse to Slovenia will work (depending on the weather). So Villach was a reasonable place since it’s reachable from every spot we might end up…
So, we arrived rather late, left our faithful car in a parking garage in the city and went to our accommodation.
Well, it was closed. Huh. We rang the bell, after a few minutes someone – quite sleepy – answered and muttered something like “will be there in 5 minutes”. 10 minutes later he was there, rather exhausted, and opened the door.
The “hotel” was weird. It looked as if it was in a building with other flats and the smell was… well… old and musty. Though the room was ok, no carpet floor, clean and big enough. Only downside: it was in the pedestrian zone above many bars. And since it was a warm Summer evening quite some people were outside drinking and talking. Very loudly.
But nothing my ear plugs couldn’t fix. 😉 After eating my mum’s Palatschinken (pancakes if you’re not familiar with the wonderful Austrian expression 😉) with strawberry jam we fell asleep very quickly!
Aaaah, da SPORK is in da house:
Some figures:
- 370km (by car!)
- 4,5 hours
- Highest spot: my hometown Judenburg with 750m altitude 😉
