Day 14 – from Döbriach to the Erlacher Hütte

This night we slept so good that we even awoke before the alarm clock. Breakfast was good and more than enough and soon we were on our way again.

At first we hiked a nice way to Radenthein, mainly in the shade of the forest. It was more or less flat and easy and comfortable to walk. Something nice we found on this way:

After arriving in and heading through Radenthein, we had to walk on a winding asphalt road up for about 2 km – this part of today’s hike was the only not so attractive one. The rest was just gorgeous!!!

After a short while after leaving the asphalt road we passed the beautiful Türkhaus.

Then a most wonderful way called “Mühlenweg” led through the forest next to a river.

It was so easy and nice to walk that we didn’t even notice the metres up. At the Aichholzer Hütte we stopped for a break and the Swiss couple from yesterday joined us after half an hour and we sat there for longer than expected. 😉

The rest of the way led us over pretty alpine pastures and through the forest before we arrived at the Erlacher Hütte much more earlier than expected.

It’s a beautiful region but today there are a lot of tourists around. So the quiet of the alps at 1700m is currently a bit disturbed. 😉

We had lunch and walked around a bit before in the early evening Martin also arrived here and we talked quite a while.

Later that evening, after I went upstairs after having brushed my teeth in the common bathroom area (3 showers/bathtubes and 2 toilets in the basement – really a lot compared to what we’ve experienced so far 😉), I was stopped by the local farmer who came for a drink to the Erlacher Hütte and commented on me sprinting upstairs like “a young deer”. 😂 The senior innkeeper couple also was sitting around and enjoying an evening drink after the day’s work, and we started to talk for a while. I was invited for a drink (I chose tea of course 😉), and after nearly an hour Felix came down, too, wondering why brushing my teeth took me that long. So, we chatted past 9 p.m. before we went to sleep finally. 😉

Some figures for today:

  • 17,5km
  • 1220m up
  • 230m down
  • Hiking times: 3h 46m
